Has your teenage son gone from super sweet to stinky and surly?
How in the world do you keep yourself sane and deal with all of the fallout of the teen years?
Ok, maybe that’s a little dramatic, but I think you understand what I mean. 🙂
Parenting teenagers is a tough job and sometimes you get more than you signed up for.
Defiance, negativity, bad attitudes, immaturity and so much more!
Here are some invaluable reminders for you to hold onto during the dark and angsty times of your teenager’s journey.
Note: Don’t worry if you are not the type of parent who likes tattoos. You can post these phrases anywhere, from your bathroom mirror to your smartphone home screen.
1. When your son is just being pissy and disrespectful out of the blue.
Get this tattoo: His love for me is demonstrated by the safety of acting out and knowing I will always be there for him.
2. When your son has disregarded your rules and is being defiant about it.
Get this tattoo: My son needs love and limits. Right now he is trying to figure out his identity and his own values. He needs my help and support.
3. When your son is brushing off any affection.
Get this tattoo: It’s his #1 job to work towards safe separation from me. I will honor that and not take it personally.
4. When your son is acting immature and self-centered . . .
Get this tattoo: My husband was just like him and he turned out great.
That last one was more of a reminder to not take things so seriously. Oh and also, teens can be so self-centered!
Don’t forget to laugh because that is good for your mental health.
Here is the takeaway message for today.
Parenting your teenager can be hard.
You have to do whatever it takes to keep loving him while taking care of yourself.
You need support, good information, a healthy dose of humor and probably an occasional glass of wine. 🙂
