Marbles the brain store is a toy store that helps people find smart ways to strengthen their brains. As a child and adolescent therapist, I can fully support strengthening brain functioning and even more so if it involves play, creativity and problem solving. Their toys focus on the important areas of critical thinking, memory, coordination, visual perception and word skills.
My true confession is that I am really just a big kid. I always loved the Toys-R-Us theme song that said, “I don’t want to grow up, I’m a Toys-R-Us kid!” I had the best time looking around this store and playing with everything. They had so many great hands on toys and games that I wanted to buy for my counseling office. They even have “brain coaches” that can help you find the right game or toy.
I picked up a few items to add to my collection, including a cylindrical Rubik’s cube like puzzle that is good for coordination and also just fun to fidget with. I also bought an octagon puzzle made out of bamboo that allows you to create all kinds of patterns with triangle shapes. I like to have things in my office that kids can grab and play with while they talk to me (especially kids with ADHD). These items are perfect along with my favorite Buckyballs.
Most of their stores are located on the East Coast, but they are opening up several locations in California. The San Francisco store is in the Stonestown Mall on 19th Avenue. If you are passing through the city, it is absolutely worth checking out. They also have a great store on their website with free shipping on all items.
